We invite advanced doctoral students and early career scholars to join the NSF-funded workshop learn.design.compute with bio. The workshop will bring together various groups engaged with biodesign including researchers, educators, designers, and policy makers to share their insights. We will discuss educational issues and priorities related to synthetic biology at K-12 education but also introductory undergraduate level to (1) identify key issues in teaching and learning of synthetic biology and computational thinking, (2) examine ethical issues associated with synthetic biology, and (3) develop of a framework that will allow researchers to articulate possible interactions between design, biology and computation.

WHO SHOULD APPLY: advanced doctoral students, postdocs, and assistant professors whose research focuses on biotechnologies with an interest in K-16 education. International researchers are invited to apply as well.

WHAT TO SUBMIT: Interested applicants should submit: (1) a C.V. and (2) a letter of interest (no more than 500 words) which should describe experiences in synthetic biology (or workshop-related fields) and current efforts in teaching and learning in synthetic biology (or workshop-related fields).

DECISION: Decisions will be announced by 3/1/2019.

All submissions will be reviewed by the workshop team. Preference will be given to applications who have engaged actively with workshop-related fields and who may benefit from the disciplinarily diverse group of attending senior scholars. Accepted applicants will receive funds for travel, accommodations, and food following NSF guidelines.
